Pharmacy technicians play a pivotal role in pharmacies, retail, hospital, and mail-order/closed pharmacy settings. Despite declining employment, job prospects for pharmacy technicians are expected to increase by 31 percent. What do Pharmacy Technicians do? Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs) prepare the prescription, technicians retrieve, count, pour, weigh, measure, and sometimes mix the medications. They prepare the prescription labels, select the type of container, and affix the prescription and auxiliary labels to the container. Once the prescription is filled, technicians price and file the prescription, which must be checked by a pharmacist before it is given to the patient. Pharmacy Technicians oversee operations and monitor the daily operations of a pharmacy so the pharmacist can perform more critical tasks. CPhT's handle and process insurance claim forms (HIPAA) while maintaining patient profiles. CPhT's assist with quality management and security measures, take inventory and maintain medication and container stock. Technicians also are required to learn the names, actions, uses, and doses of the medications. Externship Students gain hands-on experience in actual pharmacies, retail stores, and hospitals. After completion, students receive a certificate. Program Duration Days: Total of 420 hours. Day classes: 25 Hours per week for 12 weeks Schedule of Classes Days: 8:00 am –1:00 pm (12 Weeks) Monday-Friday |
