PTC is offering two classes in partnership with Gavilan College in Gilroy
Solar PV Installation, Design, and Integration
Program Summary: This is an intensive training course that offers 40 hours of critical knowledge and hands-on practice in the essentials of photovoltaic technology. Through demonstration and hands-on practice, students will gain experience in racking and wiring PV modules and balance of systems components.
Who is this class for? This class is for anyone looking to get started in the expanding solar field, or people already involved in solar looking to explain their knowledge of the industry and the technology behind it.
Certification: Upon completion, graduates will receive a certification of Training.
Schedule: Designed for working adults, classes will be held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Pre-requisites: Students must be at least 18 years of and have a high school degree or its equivalent. Also, basic proficiency in English and math is required.
Solar PV Installation, Design, and Integration with AutoCAD
Program Summary: This program combines the Solar PV Installation, Design, and Integration training with AutoCAD. After students complete the PV design and Installation, they will gain hands- on practical experience to make drawings in AutoCAD that document the design of a photovoltaic power system.
Program Length: 60 Hours
Who should take this course?
Students who have taken the Solar PV Installation, Design, and Integration program, or people with a working knowledge of PV system design and want to learn how to produce inspector-ready drawings in AutoCAD, then this course is for you! We will also use other software tools and spreadsheets to help with the design work.
Prerequisites: To make the best use of this course, you should be familiar with basic mathematics and electricity. You should be able to do the following:
· Describe the components of a PV power system and their functions
· Understand how electric circuits work (series and parallel connections)
· Understand how power, voltage and current are related in a circuit
· Understand the Cartesian coordinate system (X,Y)
Organization: This is a lecture-lab course. The emphasis will be on hands-on activities throughout the course. We will begin designing a PV system together on the first day. Each day we will build on what we’ve learned, working towards a more complete design by the end of the course.
Certification: Upon completion, graduates will receive a certification of Training.
Course Objectives: After completing the course, students will be able to:
· Draw and edit basic CAD entities such as lines, rectangles and circles
· Prepare a site plan in CAD using measurements gathered on-site
· Organize and manage complex CAD drawings using grouping and layers
· Create a single line electrical diagram for a typical PV power system
· Create a mechanical diagram showing a conduit, racks and footings.
Pacific Technical College offers a wide range of solar training programs for people working in the solar field, or looking to enter it. We offer classes and workshops at PTC and other locations in the US. These courses range from one to five days in length, and offer both presentations and hands on activities.
Solar Programs at Your Site
Pacific Technical College has worked with colleges and solar companies to provide on-site solar courses and workshops. We are looking to help schools, companies, and communities prepare their students and employees to succeed in the solar field.
