PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

Jobs for Pharmacy Technicians

Pharmacy technicians play a pivotal role in pharmacies, retail, hospital, and mail-order/closed pharmacy settings. Despite declining employment, job prospects for pharmacy technicians are expected to increase by 31 percent.

What do Pharmacy Technicians do?

Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPhTs) prepare the prescription, technicians retrieve, count, pour, weigh, measure, and sometimes mix the medications. They prepare the prescription labels, select the type of container, and affix the prescription and auxiliary labels to the container. Once the prescription is filled, technicians price and file the prescription, which must be checked by a pharmacist before it is given to the patient. Pharmacy Technicians oversee operations and monitor the daily operations of a pharmacy so the pharmacist can perform more critical tasks.  CPhT's handle and process insurance claim forms (HIPAA) while maintaining patient profiles. CPhT's assist with quality management and security measures, take inventory and maintain medication and container stock.

Technicians also are required to learn the names, actions, uses, and doses of the medications.

Externship

Students gain hands-on experience in actual pharmacies, retail stores, and hospitals. After completion, students receive a certificate.
They are eligible to receive the state license and can then take the PTCB exam.

Program Duration

Days:  Total of 420 hours.

Day classes:  25 Hours per week for 12 weeks

Schedule of Classes

Days:   8:00 am –1:00 pm (12 Weeks) Monday-Friday

 
MEDICAL OFFICE ADMINSTRATION

As the demand for patient care continues to grow, health care providers need better-trained administrative professionals to run the medical office,

What Medical Office Administration do?

While these medical office administration professionals must possess the same clerical skills required of any office specialist such as computer/technology, communication, reception, organization, they also require a thorough understanding of the complexities unique to the health care industry.

This includes medical ethics, medical law, medical billing and reimbursement, and compliance with federal regulations. In addition, they are often the first person to greet patients and, therefore, must be friendly and helpful. In this role, the medical office administration professional helps build and maintain patient’s trust and royalty.

What is the Job outlook for Medical Office Administration?
